Antibiotics are not the answer
Antibiotics represent useful tools to treat life threaten conditions, such as sepsis. However, its prescription in the office (in the US) is incorrect in about 30% of the cases. This prescription behavior can lead to drug side effects and antibiotic resistance, one of the most urgent public health problems. When an antibiotic is prescribed, bacteria can develop the ability to defend the drug designed to kill them. Smart antibiotic prescription from healthcare professionals and general public awareness of this public health problem, is imperative and it could ensure antibiotics for future generations.
